How They Met

Jake and Jess met in a relatively ordinary fashion via a mutual connection. However, they consider what developed between them to be anything but ordinary and realize they’re extraordinarily lucky to have connected at such an opportune point in their lives.

Jake was at a bar in Denver (which he later found out is one of Jess’ favorite places) when he received a text message, “Hey, are you single?”…and a few seconds later, he was given Jess’ number and didn’t waste any time calling, but Jess was at dinner with girlfriends so she let it go to voicemail. Upon returning from dinner, and after plenty of social media stalking, she called Jake back.

Their nearly hour-long conversation left Jake happily surprised and thinking that Jess was different from anyone he had encountered up to that point. Jess also felt intrigued, but she wanted to ensure that the feeling wasn’t attributed to the couple of glasses of wine at dinner. She still decided to accept Jake’s invitation to meet.

The interested pair wound up eating outdoors at local restaurant (still a favorite of theirs), where they spent hours talking about their love of family & friends, new hotspots to eat & drink, live music, yoga & running & travel.

The proposal

It was a surprise! She did NOT see it coming. Jess and Jake had plans to go to dinner with Jake’s family for his birthday, but Jess didn’t know that this was a cover for what was to come! Jake came over to her house while she finished getting ready and what he didn’t know was that Jess was planning a surprise of her own – she had been running around all day to put the finishing touches on Jake’s surprise birthday present (a trip to D.C.) and was rushed and running behind.
Once Jake finally got her out the door of her place to head to “dinner”, the two started walking toward the car when Jess spotted the photographer Jake had set up in the parking lot. When Jess turned around to ask Jake what was going on, he was down on one knee. Jake proposed right outside Jess’s place, which is where he picked her up for their first date and also where they had their first kiss. Jess and Jake then went to the restaurant where both families and close friends were waiting to celebrate!
