Being a wedding videographer, we get to meet the most amazing couples. Each couple has their own story, their own unique personalities, and fun personal touches they add to their wedding day. We honestly have the best job ever!

One of our favorite moments in a wedding day though, is the first look. What is a first look you ask? Well it is a time prior to the ceremony where the couple gets to see each other for the first time. I know what you may be thinking, wait.. aren’t we supposed to wait to see each other for the first time under the alter? Waiting till the alter is a very traditional approach, and still very much respected and can be done. A first look though, definitely has it’s own perks. Lets talk about them!

1. You are free to have sincere authentic emotions and thoughts:
When you do a first look prior to ceremony, it is just you and your significant other. (And your paparazzi of course) But ultimately it is just the two of you. Both free of judgement and free to openly express how you feel about one another in that moment, your thoughts about marrying each other, and your love. When you wait for the alter it’s hard to express those emotions fully while your officiant is holding your ceremony. So it truly gives you time to just soak in that moment together intimately and privately.

2. You are able to get the bulk of your photos out of the way: Ever wonder how couples are able to enjoy their cocktail hour with their friends and family? First look! By having a first look it gives your videographer and photographer time to capture couple portraits, bridal party photos, and family photos before the ceremony even begins! Giving you some time to capture a few couple portraits at sunset after the ceremony, and then enjoy cocktail hour with friends and family.

3. The feelings don’t go away: If you’re worried that having a first look will make the feelings and emotions go away during the ceremony, it’s not true. If the feelings and emotions are there, then they will be there regardless. I have seen so many amazing ceremony reactions, moments after a first look. If you don’t want to give your whole look away prior to ceremony, but want to have a first look, consider saving your veil for the ceremony. It is something different for your groom to be looking for. Either way, nothing can take away from the moment you walk down the isle toward your significant other to commit your life to them forever.

Either way, whatever you two decide on, it will be perfect for your wedding day. We are ultimately just so grateful to be there to capture it. Let us know if you have any other questions on First Look’s!

The Paseo at Superstition Mountain Wedding | Videographer Phoenix

How They Met:

Landon and Paige met almost nine years ago while they were both in high school working at their first job at Harkins Theaters at SanTan Mall. They were both in different places in their lives and young as they were not looking for anything serious. Paige talks about how she noticed Landon with his “Justin Bieber” hair cut and that she thought he was just the cutest. Landon says Paige caught his eye as very beautiful and he wanted to get to know her more. It wasn’t until about 2 years after working with each other that Landon and Paige’s friendship turned into something more.

Their first official date was on the 4th of July 2011. They went with some friends to tumbleweed park and watched the fireworks. After the firework show the traffic leaving was pretty bad. Paige decided to get out of the car and direct traffic herself to get them out of there. Landon said at that point he knew, and fell in love with her strong independent personality. Over the next six years Landon and Paige would move out together, adopt their fur baby Dash, and start living their lives as one.

The Proposal:

Landon and Paige formed a bond over Disney during their trip for her 18th birthday. Ever since that first trip, that has been “their place”. They go there to celebrate promotions, graduations, birthdays, anniversary’s, or even just a quick weekend trip because that week was just to much adulthood to handle. Landon knew that Paige had always dreamed of being proposed to at Disneyland since she was a little girl. Being the awesome guy he is, he knew he had to make that happen one way or another. So then the planning began.

Landon started ring shopping for Paige in September of 2015. Two stores later with his Mom, Sister, and Dad and he found “the one”. They planned a trip to Disneyland for Thanksgiving weekend of 2015. They arrived at the hotel the evening before Thanksgiving and went straight to sleep. The next morning while Paige was getting ready in the bathroom, Landon went into the luggage to grab the ring he stashed in a pocket. Paige rarely goes in that pocket, but his heart sank when he found that Paige placed something in that pocket the night before and thought she found the ring. He played it off and tried not to worry about it on their way to the park. All the while Paige was checking pockets to see if it was going to happen this trip as they had been talking about it lately. She didn’t see any ring boxes in his pockets so she forgot about it and started planning out their day.

When they arrived at the park Paige suggested that they head straight to the castle for a picture since the park seemed empty that morning. Landon agreed without hesitation. When they arrived and it was their turn for a picture, Landon took a little longer than normal to hand his phone to the photographer. Paige thought nothing of it until Landon walked over to stand with her for a photo and she could basically feel his heart pounding out of his chest. Landon then got down on one knee and asked Paige to marry him.. the rest is history! They celebrated by face-timing all their closest friends and family, and eating Mickey Waffles at their favorite restaurant, The Carnation Cafe. Landon had made a reservation weeks before to make sure it was the perfect day, and it was.

The Wedding:

Oh this wedding was one for the books! Such a gorgeous day that we were so excited to be apart of. This wedding was close to our hearts as the Bride is one of our cinematographers! Paige designed and planned the whole day and it was a fairy tale fit for a princess. The day started out at The Courtyard Marriott in Mesa were they both got ready. Harley Ann Artistry and Infinite Artistry rocked it out. They dolled up all the girls and got them ready for Monique Hessler Photography and us to capture some special moments. After they were done getting ready they headed to The Paseo for Paige’s first looks. Yes we said looks, with her Dad, Brother, and of course Landon! (You have to watch the Same Day Edit to see the sweet tears from him! Oh how he loves her!) We captured some beautiful moments in front of the gorgeous reception hall at The Paseo. Then later that evening in the desert we captured some magic of the couple during sunset, and that was dreamy. Then came reception and the most perfect sparkler exit to end the night.

The maroon, navy, and blush color palette worked so well with the gorgeous backdrop of the superstition mountains and the loose greenery throughout the reception decor. Her bridesmaids pulled off the mixed dresses so well and some even included some rose gold sparkle we can’t get over! The boys all rocked a navy tux with maroon bow ties and brown shoes. The whole wedding came together so beautifully and we are still in awe of the day.

This wedding will forever be one of my personal fav’s not only because it was SPECTACULAR and completely FABULOUS but because the bride is one of my dearest friends. I got a front row seat to watching her fall in love and determine that this was the man she was meant to spend her life with. The other awesome thing about this wedding is that I got to be in it!! All I do all day every day is weddings but I do weddings as a “vendor”… I am always working the behind the scenes to watch dreams come to life. To be able to be IN the wedding and watch it all magically come together was a totally different experience and equally as awesome. To see the lengths that each vendor goes to to make a couples day special makes me to proud to be in the wedding industry. Every last detail was so customized to Heidi and Bryan’s taste. I loved the uniqueness of it all. Heidi is an incredible graphic artist so her style and touch was on every last detail. The entire day was full of life, color and over the top fabulousness. Just like her personality!! The entire day was exactly what I wished every wedding to be… Stress free, enjoyable, celebratory, loving. It was so incredible to be able to go through the day just taking in every moment and making life long memories. Bryan and Heidi couldn’t wait to walk down that aisle and as Heidi said so lovingly in her vows “let’s do this” as they committed their lives to one another. As a surprise to Heidi and Bryan Serendipity put together a Same Day Edit. It was so fun to watch the entire day be relived that night at the Reception. I couldn’t be happier for these two and more honored to have stood beside them as they joined together and began the next chapter of their lives.

Fall Wedding Season sure came fast… We truly enjoyed the 3 months off. Some time off sure does great things for the soul and we were ready to start filming when September came around!! We kicked off wedding season with a Same Day Edit up in Sedona. A Same Day Edit is where you film, edit and play a wedding film at a couples reception. It is super high pressure and intense but the fruits of our labor are divine every time!!

This couple was amazing… Such awesome people… The groom had emergency surgery 4 days before his wedding and they were coming from New York City!! Here I was worried about the Same Day Edit and then began to wonder if we would even have a groom!! He powered through though and you would have never known he was in the hospital just a few days earlier!! They are avid sailors and they had lots of super cute touches paying homage to their love of the sea.

We had the honor and pleasure of being a part of a super awesome Same Sex Wedding Giveaway  sponsored by Mrster and Hotel Palomar Phoenix. This giveaway was in celebration of Arizona making Same Sex Marriages legal!! We first produced 4 videos of amazing couples telling their story. Then the internet voted on who would win a luxury wedding!!! Gwen and Ronda were the lucky recipients of this luxurious celebration. They are a beautiful couple who are madly in love and couldn’t wait to make their commitment legal and official. We couldn’t be more honored to document their love. Here is the Same Day Edit from their wedding. We filmed and edited this film that played at their reception.

This incredible union could not have been possible without these generous vendors who believe strongly in marriage equality.

Another Same Day Edit!!! The energy and excitement of a Same Day Edit is unparalleled… It is the PERFECT way to kick off your party. They see the screen being erected and they think here comes the same ol’ Photo Montage of child hood photos and BOOM the awesomeness ensues!! Guests are baffled that the very moments they were present for earlier in the day are being projected on the big screen as a Highlight Film. I give to you Shaunna and Taurus’s Same Day Edit.

Same Day Edits are totally fabulous…. A Same Day Edit is where we shoot and edit a Highlight Film to be played at your Reception. It adds a total WOW factor to your event. It is so fun to see not only the couples reaction but the guests reaction to the Same Day Edit. This past weekend we had the pleasure of filming Heather and Matt’s wedding. They opted for the Same Day Edit and it ROCKED the house!!!

Nelda and Karen met 57 years ago in college. They fell in love and have shared their life together ever since. There was always something missing though… They wanted to be married. Up until a few months ago that was not an option in the state of Arizona. Nelda and Karen made that option possible. They led the charge for the lawsuit against the state of Arizona banning Same Sex Marriages and won. 57 years later they wed… They invited everyone to be present for their Ceremony because so many people had supported them in their cause for marriage equality.

This film is one of my proudest moments as a wedding professional… Being able to be a part of history and living to see a time when marriage equality is a reality is unbelievable. And Serendipity getting to document the love of this incredible couple was icing on the cake. Congratulations to Nelda and Karen on a wedding 57 years in the making.

So many vendors participated and made this day a dream come true for Nelda and Karen.

The energy and excitement for the Serendipity team of a Same Day Edit is unparalleled…. We shoot and edit a mini Highlight Film to be aired at a couples wedding reception. It is super gratifying to see our work displayed on the big screen and to watch a couples response to it, the laughter, the tears and the awe that they are watching a film that was filmed just hours before. It is one of our FAVORITE things to do!!!!

Gena and Eric came to us from Canada. They were having an August wedding at The Montelucia. Yes you read that right… August wedding in Arizona. I asked her if she knew just how hot it is here in August…. Gena smiled and laughed and said “We are ready for it!! And we will figure it all out no matter how hot it gets. I just can’t wait to be Eric’s wife” Fast forward to the wedding day and we were in full swing and editing away and then a monsoon hit… A Same Day Edit is stressful enough but then you add a power outage and torrential winds and rains??? Figure it out we did…. 30 minutes before the Ceremony it became apparent that we were going to need to move the Ceremony indoors. Then the power went out… We were on pins and needles wondering if this thing was even going to air at the Reception… And there were Gena and Eric… All blissful and in love… Couldn’t care less that their entire Ceremony vision was changed in a split second and that the wind and rain was howling outdoors. I think it was a metaphor of the awesomeness of their relationship and how they will handle the challenges that come their way in the years to come.
