Welcome

The Blog

Hi I'm Taryn…

I was having lunch with Heather one of the owners of Outstanding Occasions last week and we were giving each other feedback on each others businesses. It was incredibly helpful for me to hear observations from a peer about Serendipity. Sometimes as a business owner the old statement “you can’t see the forest through the trees” couldĀ not be more true. We get so entrenched in what we are doing with our business that we don’t stop to get honest feedback from those that work with us outside of our office walls. One thing that Heather gave me feedback on was our blog. She liked how active it was and that we were always posting but she said something so powerful to me. She said” Your blog is all about your wedding films which is great but I don’t hear you in it at all.” She is sooooo right and I had an “ah ha” moment. Have you ever had people say something to you many times but then a certain someone says it to you in a different way and suddenly it clicks. I have known this observation about our blog for years but it was something about how she said it that it finally clicked. So it is a goal of mine for those that read our blog to really hear me, the voice of Taryn and the face of Serendipity in our posts. Thank you Heather. Thank you for your feedback as both a colleague and a friend!!

So I’d like to introduce you to me. Hi I’m Taryn…

I am the owner of Serendipity Videography along with my uber creative and super funny husband Jeff. We have been married for 11 years this July. We have 2 awesome kids, Briar who is 6 and Brinkley who is almost 4.

I went to college at ASU and I was an Alpha Phi. I was a Broadcasting Major and a Business Minor. My goal was to be the next Katie Couric and that all came to a screeching halt when I met Jeff. I met him at Channel 15 when I was doing my internship. Scandalous right???? And it was during the whole Monica Lewinski thing so it was doubly scandalous. I was assigned to be his intern and he swept me off my feet with his charm and sense of humor. I knew within 3 weeks that he was the one for me. It was then that I was at a cross roads. I either needed to follow my heart or follow my career into Television News. I followed my heart and I never look back. If I did follow my career I would have ended up right back here 6 months later. I would have hated it….

Years later here we are with Serendipity Videography. When I say I am the face of Serendipity it means that I run the joint. I handle all interactions with the brides. I am their girl and I love it. I am a chatty gal so I love meeting people, getting to know them and hearing their story. This really is the BEST job for me and my personality. So a few things about me….

*I am a loud person, always have been. I talk loud. I come from a family of insanely loud talkers.

*People always say that I should write a dictionary because I always make up words. I have my own language of sayings, phrases or words like “frump-a-saurus-rex” another word for looking frumpy.

*I love flip flops and would prefer to live my life in them. I was devastated last year when J Crew did away with the elastic band flip flop because I had been wearing them for 10 years.

*I never wanted to own my own business. If you told me 10 years ago that I would be here I would have thought you were crazy. I always pictured myself in a nice corporate job climbing the ladder and punching a clock. I did that for a long time and it turns out its not for me. I’m a non-conformist and the corporate world is not a place for someone like me who has strong opinions and shared them regularly in not always the most diplomatic fashion.

*I want to retire at Lake Shasta in Northern California and rent house boats to people. I am certain that I am supposed to live on a lake.

*My first concert was a Doobie Brothers concert with my parents at the age of 12 and I think I got high from all the second hand marijuana smoke.

*I love Jamoca Almond Fudge icecream from Baskin Robbins. It is my all time favorite.

*I have big lips and I get asked all the time if they are real. I used to hate them and now I embrace them.

*I don’t drink any soda or caffeine. Not because of a certain belief I just don’t like the way it makes me feel. I am already so high energy that I don’t need anything to add to that.
