How they met:

Chris was absolutely determined to meet Bre. He had seen pictures, heard from friends what an amazing person she is and was on a mission! His numerous attempts to meet her came up empty handed and had basically given up all hope.

The very next week after resigning to the fact it was not meant to be, Chris and his friends gathered to go out for dinner. It was Valentine’s Day, and after dinner with a few of his guy friends, Chris was coerced into going to a lounge called the Dakota. Wanting to just go home and mope, Chris agreed to drop his friends off and hang out with them there for a little bit.

They promptly sat down at a table near the bar, and it was not long before Chris’s friend said to him…”you know that girl Bre you have been asking everyone in town about, well she is 5 feet behind you standing at the bar.”

Instant butterflies! Chris turned around and within seconds, their eyes locked. One of those long, deep, mutual stares that overwhelm you. They both glanced away as to not seem overly obvious. Moments later, they turned to each other again, eyes locking once more.

Soon the two started talking. Chris couldn’t tell you what they talked about for those next 45 minutes, as he was consumed by her beauty and bubbly personality. During that time, however, she invited him to a work event, and that was the perfect opportunity to get her number, FINALLY!

The Proposal:

Their engagement was under the guise of a “birthday road trip” down the coast of California for Bre. The couple flew into San Francisco on a Wednesday, rented a car and drove down to Carmel, which was our first stop on a 5-night trip. We stayed the night in Carmel at a beautiful boutique hotel called La Playa Carmel.

Bre’s birthday fell on a Saturday…night four of our little vacation. Chris thought that if Bre had any expectation of a proposal on this trip, that she MIGHT expect it on her birthday. Thus, he was determined to propose on the very first night.

Chris had made a sunset dinner reservation at an exquisite restaurant called The Pacific’s Edge, complete with stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. On the way to the restaurant, Chris voiced to Bre that his parents had mentioned to him a beautiful park they should check out called Point Lobos State Park.

Little did Bre know that Chris had picked out a location to pop the question, the only problem was…he, nor his parents, had actually ever been to Point Lobos before! Well, Chris had honed in on Point Lobos State Park via Google Earth, however, he would quickly find out that pinpointing THE spot would prove a bit more challenging than he imagined.

Bre, of course, was dressed to the nines and…wearing heels. Not ideal shoes to be wearing on a dirt trail. Chris began to stress a bit as there was no ideal spot in sight…the trail seemed endless with no viewpoint! After (violently) shaking the rocks out of her heels for the umpteenth time, Bre made it apparent that there better be an end to this trail in sight. Chris jogged ahead and, by the grace of God, found THE spot!

Chris got down on one knee, behind Bre, as she was snapping pictures. She then started walking away, and Chris started to follow behind her, dragging his knee along as well!

Finally he grabbed her arm, stopped her, turned her around, and saw the look of utter surprise and joy in her eyes as he proceeded to tell her that when he looked out into the ocean, he saw endless possibilities…a blank canvas, uncharted waters, adventures, peaks and valleys of a life that he could not imagine spending without his one true love, the love of his life.
